OUR DATA PROTECTION POLICY
Hin Tat Augustine & Partners takes its responsibilities under Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 and any subsidiary legislation and guidelines issued thereunder (collectively, “the Data Protection laws”) very seriously.
This Data Protection Policy is intended to help you to understand better how we collect, use, disclose and/or process the personal data provided to us. It is also intended to help you decide whether to provide us any of your personal information and data.
COLLECTION OF PERSONAL DATA
Your personal data will be collected in accordance with the Data Protection laws, and we will inform you of the purposes for which your personal data may be collected, used, disclosed and/or processed, as well as obtain your consent for the collection, use, disclosure and/or processing of your personal data for any intended purposes(s), unless we are permitted by law to collect and/or process your personal data without your consent.
PURPOSES FOR COLLECTION OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA
The personal data collected by us may be used, disclosed and/or processed for various purposes, including but not limited to the following: –
- The provision of legal services to you;
- Complying with applicable laws and regulations, codes of practice or guidelines, policies, procedures, regulatory requirements and any request or direction of any state authority; or responding to requests for information from public agencies, ministries, statutory boards or other similar authorities (such as the Ministry of Law or the Ministry of Home Affairs). For the avoidance of doubt, this means that we may disclose your personal data to the aforementioned category(ies) of entities upon their request or direction;
- Conducting research, analysis and development activities (including but not limited to data analytics and profiling) to improve our services and facilities in order to enhance your relationship with us or to improve our legal services;
- Storing, hosting, backing up of your personal data, whether within or outside of Singapore;
- Responding to complaints, feedback, queries and/or requests;
- Verifying your identity, processing payments and managing our business operations; and/or
- Any other purposes which we will notify you of at the time of obtaining your consent.

Please take note that we may also disclose the personal data provided by you to our third party service providers, agents and/or other third parties whether situated in Singapore or elsewhere for one or more of the above stated purposes under the Scope of Use, who will process your personal data on our behalf (“our Service Providers”).
We will employ our best efforts to require that our Service Providers protect your personal data. However, please understand that where our Service Providers are situated outside of Singapore, the relevant laws protecting your personal data may differ.
SPECIFIC EXCEPTIONS TO NON-DISCLOSURE
We will not disclose your personal data to third parties without first obtaining your consent permitting us to do so. However, we may disclose your personal data without obtaining your consent in particular situations, including the circumstances as set out in the Second, Third and Fourth Schedules of the Personal Data Protection Act 2012.

OUR MANAGEMENT OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA
We have taken and will take reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data is accurate and complete in the event that we are to utilize your personal data or if it is to be disclosed to another entity. However, in order for us to ensure the accuracy and completeness of your personal data, you must update us of any changes in your personal data. For example, we will require that you inform us of any changes to your residential address. We will not be liable for relying on any inaccurate or incomplete personal data arising from your not updating us of any changes to your personal data. We will also not be liable for any inaccurate or incomplete personal data arising from your own error for any reason whatsoever, such as typographical or formatting errors.
We have in place reasonable security arrangements to ensure that your personal data is sufficiently protected. Appropriate security arrangements will be taken to prevent any unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure or processing of your personal data. However, we will not be liable for any unauthorized use or access of your personal data by third parties which are wholly or primarily attributable to factors beyond our control.
We have in place measures to destroy and/or anonymise your personal data in our possession where it is reasonable for us to assume that it is no longer necessary to retain your personal data.
Where your personal data is to be transferred or relayed out of Singapore, we will comply with Data Protection laws, which will require us to obtain your consent. We will take appropriate steps to ascertain that any foreign recipient organization is bound by legally binding and enforceable obligations to protect your personal data, with a standard generally comparable to the Data Protection laws. Please note that this may necessitate us entering into a contract with the foreign recipient organization dealing with the transfer or receipt of your personal data, or permitting such transfer or receipt without a contract if the Data Protection laws permit us to do so.
